Achilles tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis is a very common problem in running, especially older runners. It is usually caused by a combination of too much activity; tight calf muscles and achilles tendon; worn out running shoes; and poor foot and leg biomechanics.

The main treatment or cure for Achilles tendonitis are  modifying activity levels; ice and drugs to reduce swelling and inflammation; a heel raise; Achilles tendonitis foot orthotics are often needed to improve foot function. Running shoes will need to be looked at and changed if need be. This is follwed by a gradual return to full running distance.
